New Theory Challenges Quantum Gravity Assumption

New theory seeks to unite Einstein’s gravity with quantum mechanics 🔗

A radical theory that consistently unifies gravity and quantum mechanics while preserving Einstein’s classical concept of spacetime is announced today in two papers published simultaneously by UCL physicists.

A new theory has been proposed by UCL physicists that aims to reconcile Einstein's theory of general relativity with quantum mechanics. The theory, called a "postquantum theory of classical gravity," challenges the prevailing assumption that spacetime must be quantized and suggests that spacetime may be classical, resulting in random fluctuations larger than those predicted by quantum theory. The theory has been developed to address the black hole information problem and proposes experimental tests to determine the quantum vs classical nature of spacetime. This theory has implications beyond gravity and could potentially resolve the measurement postulate of quantum theory. The proposed experiments to test the nature of spacetime are of significant importance in understanding the fundamental laws of nature and may provide answers within the next 20 years.
