Australia has allocated AU$288.1 million for the national digital identity program, which will include running pilots with the private sector, upgrading infrastructure, and enhancing security. The bulk of the funding will be used to upgrade the myGovID platform, and other agencies included in the budget will work on establishing data standards, performing security assessments, and serving regulatory functions. Additionally, the Northern Territory plans to roll out digital driver licenses, integrating them with other government systems. The digital ID project previously received funding from the Mid-Year Economic and Fiscal Outlook (MYEFO), and the current federal funding will also support an important project to prevent data breaches and identity fraud.
